the future’s bright…

I read in our company magazine today, (I work for Orange) that there are to be a whole raft or changes happening accross the company which will undoubtedly be of benefit to everyone who works here.

One thing is that we’re all getting brand new phones!  Everyone of us!  Great stuff.  Getting a shiny brand new mobile is never a bad thing.  But there is more…

There’s to be a total revamp of all the offices in the uk, which means they’ll all look more professional, more brand-like.  The way they described all the offices in today’s magazine was like that of a “patchwork quilt”.  Every office looks different and there’s no real continuity.  Apart form that our own office reminds me more of a prison that anything else… I’ve always thought that from the start.  It’s so clinical and uninteresting, I’m convinced that a makeover of the place will dramatically alter the energy of the place for the better.  I just hope they go the full hog and actually do what they say they’re going to do…

There was also talk of cutting their carbon footprint by a huge 60% by 2015 (which I’m WELL impressed with) and setting up an environmental commission to deal with all that stuff.  Also mentioned was a desire to install 450 more masts in city centres which would handle very high speed data (I imagine it’ll be HSDPA probably with 8 E1s per site) which should give customers a huge 14.4 Megs max download speed from a laptop.  Bloody hell.  But that’s exactly what’s needed.  Orange has been like this for ages – everyone’s got so much inertia and morale’s very very low.  People badly need to let their energy move around and actually move forward…

I mean I came away from the newspaper feeling excited at the prospect of seeing all that change and being directly involved in it myself.  I thought it was super.  Then I heard my colleagues…

Honestly, what is the point of being negative just for the sake of negativity??  We can’t come to any real conclusions on the subject of how it’s all going to turn out until we actually start seeing things happen and seeing our jobs change.  Why be negative about it?  Wouldn’t it be better to just hold the man in charge to his word and be open and positive about the prospect of a lot of new good coming in?  Why block yourself off to all that before he’s even had a chance to visit us?!

No, I for one (and possibly only one…) will remain positive and open to all the new changes that are going to happen.  Because being otherwise is nothing more than bloody stupid.  Honestly, how backwards can folk be?  Sheesh…

The future’s still bright…

  1. Your attitude is right. Me I would be cynical to be honest because I dislike change. If you think about it though, our attitude, will influence the outcome of any changes in so far as is possible. Change is scary. Love these folks more if you can. It is fear based. Be grateful you feel secure in the Tao. Some of us struggle still with that and the older we get the more we seem to trust less even though we have come so far and seen we are ok. It is like we think it must be our turn for it to go wrong now. That is just fear based too. If the now’s bright the future’s bright because that is the space we are going into.

  2. yesterday I had a conversation with someone and was aware every topic she brought up was about death; illness or ‘wrongdoing’ in the past on someone else’s part and that every single comment she made had a negative or judgemental slant. The thing is, once you start noticing these things it’s impossible to ignore them, or that’s how I find it!

So as this person is someone who will always be in my life, it’s about me managing my time with her and not getting sucked into her negativity or so pissed off with it that it gets me irritable, angry or just down.
And i guess this is a similar situation for you with your work colleagues..??

be interested to hear how you go…

  3. I think it is a similar situation Helen – they dont tend to come up to me and evangelise negativity, anyway… just as I don’t pile the positivity onto them. It’s a case of connectting each other together as opposed to using my positivity as ammunition against their negativity. People are fragile things and need their voices to be heard, negative or not.

Anyway, I just needed a rant! I’m not gonna bother trying to convert them unless it feels like the natural thing to do at the time (although it certainly doesn’t right now…), I’m happy enough as it is. :-)

    Cheers folks.
